Mr.
Garber began his Kokondo training in 1992 at Brandeis University with
Sensei Dan Cohen. In 1995,
he earned his Jukido shodan and became a member of the
Yudanshakai. Currently, Mr.
Garber is a Jukido Nidan and a Shodan in Karate.
He is a certified instructor, having recently opened an adult
Karate class in Norwood, MA at the South Shore Kokondo Academy.
He regularly attends National and International seminars on both
coasts. Additionally, Mr.
Garber has taught and assisted in numerous self-defense seminars and
demonstrations at schools, colleges and corporations across New England.
In 2001, he was the featured instructor for a special seminar at
Sensei Shan Hua’s dojo in San Francisco.
In his Kokondo training, Mr. Garber especially enjoys combining
Jukido's throwing and locking techniques with the straight-line power of
Karate basics, and works to balance and blend both distinct Kokondo arts
into his training and teaching.
Mr. Garber received his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Brandeis
University. He is currently
finishing his Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling from UMass Boston
(May, 2002). He has worked
in the field of vocational and psychosocial rehabilitation counseling
since 1995, specializing in working with clients in recovery for severe
mental illness. Mr. Garber is also a musician and has played drums
professionally for a number of years.
He has produced one CD and is beginning to plan a second.
