Mr. Friedman began his Jukido training in 1991 at
Brandeis University with Sensei Dan Cohen, and commenced his study of
Kokondo Karate with Sensei Johanna Glazer in 1994.
In 1995, along with his favorite ukes Steve Lisauskas and Adam
Garber, he earned his Jukido shodan and became a member of the
Yudanshakai. Currently, Ben trains in Chicago with Master Steve Dunne.
They have been working together since October of 2000 and have been
enjoying every minute of it!
He continues his training with Mr. Cohen in Chicago and Boston as
both of their schedules allow . As he practices for his Shodan test in Kokondo Karate, Mr.
Friedman has been fortunate to assist at seminars, self-defense classes
and demonstrations in the Chicago area.
In his Kokondo training, Ben especially enjoys combining the
power of karate dynamics and basics with the flexibility and fluidity of
Jukido's throws.
Mr. Friedman received his B.A. degree in Sociology with a minor in
health policy from Brandeis University. He is currently in his final
year of medical school at the Chicago Medical School and is looking
forward to his graduation this June. Ben will be an intern at the
University of Illinois at Chicago campus starting at the end of June
2002 and will begin his residency at the Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital
and Care Network/University of Chicago Hospitals in Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation beginning July, 2003. Soon to be Dr. Friedman is
excited about this next step in his medical training and is planning to
focus his career on stroke and geriatric rehabilitation.
Ben lives in Chicago with his lovely wife Laura, who is also a
pediatrician. Laura also recently began her Kokondo and Jukido training
with Ben and Sensei Dunne.
