Mr. Greg Mellinger began his training in Kokondo Karate in 1977 in Ossining, New York under Master Steve Dunne and Senseis George Angelini,Bob McNamara and Betty Alford. He earned his Shodan in 1983 along with
his younger brother Paul. Two decades later, his powerful mawashi geriand other dynamic kicks such as yoko tobi geri directly reflect many years of personal tutelage under Sensei Dunne. Continuing to emulate his mentor, Mr. Mellinger returned to Kokondo in 2001, this time at the Boston Kokondo & Jukido Academy under Sensei Dan Cohen. His power, speed and determination in the dojo are all dramatic. He especially enjoys practicing self-defense, kihon and kata--particularly Konsho, Saifa and Geri Kata. While karate remains his primary focus, Mr. Mellinger also enjoys Jukido, and skillfully utilizes counter-strikes from all types of positions, including newaza (ground-work). Since his return to the IKA, in addition to Brandeis classes, he has trained at private, intense sessions in CT and MA with Shihan Arel, Masters Dunne and Howard, Sensei Steve
Lisauskas and the
Cohens.
Mr. Mellinger graduated in 1989 from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a BS in European History. He is currently completing his Master's Degree in Management at Leslie College in Cambridge, MA. He is the CEO of HighQuest Partners, a financial services and insurance management consulting firm. http://www.highquestpartners.com/ In his work with clients, he specializes in mergers & acquisitions, anti-money-laundering, and operational excellence. Greg and his wife Susan were married in August 1990 and they are very proud of their three wonderful children, Morgan, Heather and Connor. Outside of family, work and Kokondo, Greg enjoys reading of all types, antiques, travel, and walking his dog Max.
