Mr. Ian Platt

Mr. Ian Platt Mr. Ian Platt began his martial arts training in Jukido Jujitsu as a Freshman at Brandeis University in the Fall of 1992, studying from Senseis Dan Cohen and Greg Szlyk. He  continued his training throughout his college career and beyond, commencing his study of Kokondo Karate under Senseis Johanna and Len Glazer and Mr. Cohen. He earned his Jukido Shodan in 1996 alongside partners Shan Hua and Kenichi   Hartman, and is currently practicing diligently at Brandeis, working towards his shodan in karate. Some of his favorite training includes kansetsu and shime waza, o-soto-gari and kata guruma, and Pinan Godan.

Mr. Platt is a veteran of many Kokondo demonstrations and seminars, including the original Brandeis Invitational Seminars in the early 1990's. He reflects with specific appreciation upon the training he received from Shihan Arel, Master Howard and Sensei Scott Cohen at the 1993 Brandeis and 1997 Westfield National seminars, and at Hombu's Yudanshakai classes in CT.

Outside of Kokondo, Mr. Platt earned his BA in Classical Studies from Brandeis University in 1996 and is also an MA Candidate at Boston College in Administrative Studies. He speaks German and Japanese and currently works in Financial Services in the greater Boston area. He is also passionate about charitable non-profit work and volunteers whenever possible for Boston Cares, helping with food drives, teaching English, and treating abused animals at the MSPCA. In his own words, "One of the best benefits of Kokondo is the camaraderie. Everyone is there not only for their own reasons, but also for everyone else in the dojo. It gives you a sense of trust (especially with safety) and belonging. These both carry well outside the dojo.
