Glazer commenced his martial arts training in Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate
in 1982 and began his Kokondo training in 1990 at the Brandeis Kokondo
Academy with Sensei Daniel Cohen. Mr. Glazer is currently a Nidan in
Jukido, a Shodan in Kokondo Karate, and a certified instructor of both
arts.
A member of the Yudanshakai since 1993, Sensei Glazer has
attended many seminars with Shihan Arel, and appreciates numerous hours
of personal Jukido training with Master Howard since joining the IKA. He
enjoys team-teaching with Sensei Cohen in classes, seminars and
demonstrations, often serving enthusiastically as Sensei Cohen's uke of
choice.
With Mr. Cohen, he taught Kokondo programs at Camp Ramah in
Wingdale, NY and at the Cambridge School in Weston, MA.
From 1994-1996, he was co-Chief Instructor of the BKA. He counts
Bassai, Saifa and Bo among his favorite karate kata, and is partial to
Jukido's sutemi-waza and taiho-jitsu techniques.
Mr. Glazer often incorporates his academic and professional background
in Psychology with his martial arts teaching and training. He has taught
physical intervention and crisis prevention to mental health
professionals in psychiatric hospitals in the Boston area. He has also
taught Kokondo at inpatient psychiatric facilities across the Northeast.
His research shows that self-defense training to otherwise aggressive
youths can reduce violent behavior. His graduate coursework has included
studies of violence and assault prevention, and tied directly to his
first-hand experience as a Kokondo teacher.
Sensei Glazer is currently the senior sales representative for The
Wellbridge Center in Newton, MA. He is married to Sensei Johanna Glazer
and the proud father of Joshua Alexander Glazer.
