Mr.
Schultz began his martial arts training in 1995 in Jukido at Brandeis
University under Senseis Johanna and Len Glazer.
After his graduation from Brandeis in 1996, he continued
practicing Jukido at the BKA under Sensei Cohen, and also began an
intensive study of Kokondo Karate.
He earned his Jukido Shodan in 1999 and Karate shodan in 2000.
After serving as an assistant instructor for two years at the BKA,
Mr. Schultz earned his Teaching Certification and became the Chief
Instructor of the Babson College Kokondo Karate and Jukido Jujitsu dojo.
His students include undergraduates, and a diverse array of
international M.B.A. candidates.
Aside from his training under BKA sensei, Mr. Schultz studies with
Shihan Arel at the CT Yudanshakai classes; and has received focused
attention from Master Howard, Sensei Scott Cohen, and European Sensei
Vesa Toropainen during their frequent visits to the BKA. He has attended
several International seminars, and also trains periodically with Sensei
Greg Szlyk during visits to Washington, D.C. With a balanced blend of
jujitsu and karate, Mr.
Schultz favors a “no-nonsense” approach to Kokondo self-defense. A fan of techniques that are direct and “to the
point,” his three favorite throws include: uke waza,
harai-tsurikomi-ashi, and o-soto-makikomi, while Kanku and Seeinchin
rank among his favorite karate kata.
Outside of Budo, Mr. Schultz’s academic background includes a
B.A. in American Studies from Brandeis University and an M.B.A. from
Babson College (May 2002). He
has worked as an Instructional Design Consultant; and from 1997-2001, as
a Director of Training for Linkage, Inc. with Sensei Cohen.
Together, they successfully developed and sold a variety of Human
Resources and Leadership programs and client solutions.
His other interests include classical guitar and fly-fishing.
Mike and his wife Allison recently celebrated their wedding in
Bethesda, MD surrounded by many Kokondo friends.
