Teaching martial
arts with a realistic approach to self defense requires
occasional street clothes practice outside the comfort
and safety of the dojo. In this photo by Sensei
Atte Jokinen, Master Arel teaches Yubi Kansetsu Waza,
a finger containment technique, to dissuade a young
Finnish Kokondo-ka from stealing Sensei Kokkonen's car.
The car technique segment is always a favorite at
seminars. At this 2003 European Seminar, it was
one of five stations for an evening street clothes
session. The others included tile breaking, knife
fighting, bo disarming, and a Haunted House.
